Dead Google - Yahoo Ad Deal!

Google walks away from Yahoo Ad deal as BBC and Wired are reporting. As we reported back in June in our blog post "google-yahoo-ink-ad-deal-good-you" Google was set to display some of its ads in Yahoo's search results.

Apperently Google thinks this partnership is not worth to much anymore, well at least not the hassel or "protracted legal battle" with the regulators.

Back in June the deal was much loved by Yahoo and also needed after its management turned down a takeover offer from Microsoft. Most of the shareholders have been very angry and might be still.

So Google walking away rather than taking up the deal and fight for it, leaves Yahoo in the cold. It has to be seen if Yahoo will approach Microsoft again even so Microsoft has publicly announced it has no interest. The two companies have not been very successful in getting any further on there own and with $14 a share on Wednesday for Yahoo Carl Icahn might push again to resurrect the Microsoft deal.

Carl Icahn is the Yahoo investor who try to sack Yahoo management as they rejected  Microsoft offer. He did not try it all the way, but sits today on Yahoo's board.

There is good news in this for all business owners, enterpreneurs and marketers. As I pointed out in my blog in June, if the deal comes true it will leave mainly one search engine who can reach almost 90 plus x procent of the North American internet user with online ads in search results - Google. While that is not to bad, since one ad will reach so many people, I also pointed out that this advantage could come with a price on the long run. A higher cost in placing the ads.

Now the deal between Google and Yahoo fell through, this will not be the case. We can expect that Yahoo will regain some if not all of its advertising share, at least it will have 100& of it from its own websites - isn't it?! Again we can plan budgets, test different ads on differnt search engines and we should hope that Yahoo will come forward with some new and cool tools. For a start, how about opening its publisher program to the rest of the world?!
