Google to Launch "Friends Connect"

By Andrew - Posted on 12 May 2008

TechCrunch and Cnet both announced over the weekend that Google will join the Social Network data collection crowd. There service will be called "Friends Connect" and based on Open Social. It is a set of API's that will pull profile from social networks into 3rd party websites.

The reason why MySpace, Facebook and now Google are fast to get there own product out is because whoever is on the top is also the one who likely control user data over a long time. Instead of filling out all the data over and over again, the users will do it once at one site and allow other sites to access this identity data.

Today we will find out what Google will offer and how it compares to MySpace Data Availability and Facebook Connect. With the growing number of social sites there is a growing need to make it easy to keep user data save and up to date. Whether Google will be able to go between the user and the social network sites as a third party to hold the data has to be seen. But whatever Google will put on the plate, it is you the user who has the power to show Google the place and crown the big player.
